Outrage online after supermarket sells ‘inappropriate’ items for toddlers

Kmart has come under fire online after a mother shared a photo of a pair of cut-off denim shorts hanging on a shelf in the store, designed for babies and toddlers.

The photo of the in-store rack of clothing and size 1 shorts being sold for just $12 was shared by a top contributor to a popular Kmart mom Facebook group and captioned: “WTAF Kmart… do better “.

The hundreds of comments on the group’s now-viral post were mixed with many mothers feeling similar to the original poster.

“I was taken back”

“I saw these and I turned back a little”, wrote a mother.

Kmart has come under fire online after a mother shared a photo of a pair of cut-off denim shorts hanging on a shelf in the store designed for babies and toddlers.

“It doesn’t really bother me, but when they make size 1-7 shorts for little girls that show ass cheeks… I’m a little disgusted.”

Another added: “OMG what happened to modesty for our young ladies? Well, where is the rest of the fabric? –

“[I] held them against my daughter for cursing and laughing. sincerely [they] could pass for underwear, – said a third.

One mother thought they would barely be acceptable to minors and teenagers, let alone babies.

“My daughter is 10 and I have always bought most of her shorts from the boys’ section as the girls are extremely short,” said one disgruntled mother.

“Absolutely not!”

While many thought they were inappropriate, some also thought they just looked uncomfortable.

“Absolutely not!”, a mother wrote under the photo. Not only did she feel they were too short, but that denim would be “too uncomfortable for a toddler on a hot day in a diaper.”

Another added: “Uncomfortable ugly nappy covers, that’s a no from me unfortunately.

However, there were many users who not all agreed that these shorts were inappropriate for little girls, but that the outrage over the shorts was misplaced.

“What the f**k is wrong with you all?”

“What the f**k is wrong with you all?” said an angry mother

“They are children.” Not adults. Yes, they are short – they are also for a toddler who walks around in swimmers on a hot day – I mean by the age of one my kids spent most of their time in just bare feet.

“It’s not the clothes that’s the issue, it’s people like you who make a deal about it when there’s no need.

“They are for sale and no one is forcing you to buy.

“Honestly, if that offends you, you have a lot of time on your hands. It’s a pair of SUMMER shorts!â€

“calm down people”

One mother said she had seen another post where a woman had bought the shorts by mistake but was surprised by how they looked on her daughter.

She wrote: “When she washed them and put them on her daughter, they actually fit perfectly and weren’t too short at all. [They were] just like normal shorts and nothing like they looked like in the store.â€

Another added: “They don’t look as short as you’d imagine when they’re on.” Regular cut shorts only.

“Calm down people.”
