A mum has sparked debate online after sharing a list of things she ‘refuses’ to do for her husband.
In her clip, Paige Turner made it clear that she’s his wife, ‘not his mother’ and she doesn’t agree to take more of the mental load than her fair share.
However, the video faced some backlash from people who claimed she was neglecting the ‘small acts of kindness’ in her marriage.
But Turner’s response was, “little acts of kindness, which are mostly chores, mostly just add up to work at the end of the day.”
Let’s get into it and see if you agree with her stance or not…
“He’s a grown man”
“I don’t do his laundry,” she began. “He can do it himself. I wash my clothes and in i.e. baby laundry. He does his own thing.”
She continues: “He cooks dinner every night. I make breakfast and lunch for the children. If he’s hungry, he’ll figure out what to have for lunch the same way I do.”
“I don’t make appointments with his doctor. I want him to be healthy, but he’s a grown man, he can book his own dates.”
Other things she won’t do include booking his hair, packing holiday clothes and buying new underwear when the old ones have holes.
“All those things are things he can do on his own,” she asserts. “I am neither my husband’s personal secretary nor his personal assistant, I am none of those things. I’m his partner, I’m his equal, and I don’t have to do things to take care of him and serve him at all times.”
Before you think she’s completely heartless, Turner points out that she still does small acts of kindness, but they don’t feel like chores.
“If I see a vinyl that I think he’ll like, I buy it. I’m in the store and I see something that I think he might enjoy eating, I buy it,” she concludes. “But when it comes to household chores, these are not acts of kindness.”
“Teamwork, not slavery”
Her clip resonated with many, with some saying: “He married me, he didn’t hire me!” and “Love this for you queen!”
“Preach. Parenting your spouse is such a departure,” echoed another.
And someone else agreed: “Exactly how it should be. Teamwork, not slavery.”
However, someone else asked, “Why don’t you put all the clothes together? It’s washing anyway, it just seems like more work for everyone.”
“I take pride in doing all those things for my husband,” admitted another.
“I would do anything for my husband. He is my KING!” wrote another woman.
And this mother gave this perspective: “I’m a stay-at-home woman. I do all those things plus more and I’m very happy. If I feel overwhelmed, he always steps up and helps me. Every wedding is different.”
