Extravagant set-up of mommy camps with plasma TVs and couches sparks heated debate on the Internet: “Why go?”

If you’re a camper, you’ll know that little creature comforts from home can make a world of difference.

Whether you bring your favorite pillow or your favorite brand of coffee – a touch of home can make the outdoors even more enjoyable.

But what happens when your creature comfort checklist starts to resemble your entire inventory of furniture and appliances?

That’s the question that divided the internet this week after a mom shared a video of her rather extravagant camping setup.

Let’s just say there’s no billy in sight.

Complete with a plasma TV for the kids, a couch, a toaster and multiple double beds… Think that defeats the purpose of camping? TikTok/@jodie._e

Four tents were erected

In the clip, which has been viewed by over four million people, mother-of-two Jodie Louise invites her followers to her family’s campsite and shows them the various rooms and luxury equipment she has brought on the trip.

Starting with the ‘hall’, Jodie has installed a three-tiered shoe rack at the entrance to ensure the inside of the tents remains clean. There’s also a toilet for “desperate times at night”, a clothesline and washing basket, and a sky full of food.

Next comes the main living room, which consists of four tents joined together to create one massive ‘house’.

One tent is the ‘kitchen’, complete with a toaster, kettle and crockery station.

The other is a ‘living room’ with carpets, an air sofa, throws and cushions, as well as a plasma TV.

“The TV is there when the kids are absolutely wrecked from all the camping activities,” the mom explained. “We can leave them in the tent and put on some Netflix while we just sit and enjoy some Prosecco. It gives us some time to grow.”

Moving towards the end of the space, Jodie shows her bedroom, which is equipped with a double bed and a portable wardrobe complete with drawers and ample hanging space.

Adjacent to the adults’ bedroom is the children’s room, which also has an extra-cozy-looking double bed with a full sheet and doona set.

Finally, the outdoor area has a BBQ, lounge chairs, a full dining table and inflatable screens for privacy and to protect their tents from the wind.

In a follow-up clip, Jodie shows her partner cleaning the carpets inside the tents with a full-sized Dyson.

“Why don’t you vacuum while camping? You vacuum at home, it’s a proper camping rug, why wouldn’t you want it clean?” she said. “I don’t think it’s a big deal.”

“Why even go camping?”

Many followers were taken aback by the whole set-up, with one person asking: “Why even go camping?”

“I love your gear, but some of this stuff is just laughable to me…” said one commenter.

“I will never understand this style of camping,” admitted another.

“Jesus, leave the TV at home. The bloody news or whatever crap you watch will still be there when you come back,” said a fourth.

“Oh my days, I can be abroad at an all-inclusive resort in the time it takes you to set this up!” a marked fifth.

“The point of camping is to get away from home…” claimed another viewer.

Another odd comment read: “I honestly thought camping meant going somewhere secluded to get in touch with nature.”

However, many came to the mother’s defense. “I think people don’t understand the difference between camping and bushcraft survival camping. There is no way to camp,” said one fan.

“This is my idea of camping, 😅,” someone else wrote.

“If I’m camping for a week, this is how I want to camp! Comfortable and organized. A lot of people don’t like camping because they don’t like the mess of it. This is a game changer,” shared another TikToker.

“There is no rulebook”

Jodie responded to some of the feedback, saying “I didn’t realize there was a rulebook for camping” and “people can camp however they want”.

“If I want to bring my washer and dryer and someone else wants to just bring the basics, just let them do what they want to do.

“Everybody likes to pick on other people for what they do.”
