Luxury designers showcase ‘Ozempic coat’ trend for fall: ‘It’s a strong, confident look’

It’s zero –the waist fashion, baby.

Luxury design houses are taking a stab at the fade and debuting chic “Ozempic coats” as this fall’s fanciest adornment.

“It’s a strong, confident look,” Sophie Jordan, menswear buyer at luxury online retailer Mytheresa, who coined the cheeky Ozempic coat label, told Bloomberg.

“[It’s] an item that is incredibly easy to wear, she said, “and integrates into your wardrobe.”

As the weight loss drug craze continues, designers around the world are turning to slimmer cuts and silhouettes.Â

A recent survey found that 15.5 million people—roughly 6% of US adults—have turned to injections like Ozempic and Wegovy to shed excess pounds.

And the fat-slimming craze has prompted designers to bring out “tighter,” more cutting garments that feature adjustable corsets and sheer embellishments.Â

However, some tastemakers, like Namila, have taken a much more literal approach to the harshness trend.

The provocative clubwear creator premiered an ever-controversial “I heart Ozempic” shirt during Berlin Fashion Week in July. It drew flak from critics who deemed the top’s messages “toxic”.

But it seems the growing Ozempic coat movement has less to do with fat-loss fad chasing, and more to do with the resurgence of slightly passable pieces like trenches and coats.Â

Saying a cheery goodbye to bubble coats and over-the-top clothing, fashion visionaries like Yohji Yamamoto – as well as Maximilian Davis, the creative director behind Ferragamo, Sabato De Sarno for Gucci and designers Jil Sanders Luke and Lucie Meier – €” are releasing skinny styles for this year’s fall/winter collections. Â

And quirky fashionistas are eating it up.

Online searches for “long skinny coats” are said to have increased by 16% in recent months, according to Lyst, a global fashion search engine.

Gen Z glamor girls have even likened the craze to the “old money aesthetic” also known as the “stolen wealth look.” It’s a viral nod to classic high-end but low-shine clothing.

“The ‘Inspector Gadget’ coat of my dreams,” gushed the NYC-based brunette behind TikTok fashion influencer @AllTheFinery, as she modeled a “gorgeous” pleated coat by Sandro Paris.

Jasmine Howell, a clotheshorse content creator from Australia, has also recently turned heads on a long, fitted white winter coat for digital audiences, calling the waisted jumpsuit “the epitome of understated elegance.”

And her fellow diva from below, Katherine Londono, a designer, separately sported a figure-hugging trench from Pfeiffer.

She captioned her stylish post with hashtags like “#CoatSeason” and “#OldMoneyOutfit.”
