He decided to just wing it.
Thought you were impatient to get off a plane? A teenage passenger was arrested in Australia after he “opened” a stalled plane’s emergency exit and walked along its wing.
“The man was behaving quite strangely,” “horrified” fly witness Audrey Varghese, 21, told Melbourne Radio 3AW of the wild incident. The incident happened on board a Jetstar flight that had flown from Sydney to Melbourne, CBS reported.
The plane had stopped at its destination when, all of a sudden, the unidentified flyer “took off immediately and basically charged down to where the emergency exit row is,” she recalled to 9 News Australia, adding that he looked “disorganized”. and it was “Putting people off, causing a bit of a commotion.”
Helion then “opened” the hatch, Varghese added, which caused the emergency slide to deploy.
However, instead of picking up the inflated fuselage, the passenger awkwardly walked along the wing and then slid the engine onto the ground, where it was caught.
Accompanying footage showed the orange-shirted miscreant clashing with authorities on the tarmac.
“I was really shocked at first,” Varghese told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation as he recounted the wild incident. “My friend and I were talking at the time and then as soon as we heard someone yelling, we kind of froze.”
Another passenger claimed the wingman had been vaping, which is banned, and had also unsuccessfully asked crew members to serve him alcohol.
The unruly fellow has since been arrested for “aggressive behavior and breaching aircraft safety protocols”, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said in a statement.
“The man was assessed by ambulance officers and later transferred to hospital for further assessment,” an AFP representative said.
The police are following the investigation to clarify the event and will be scheduled later.
A spokesperson for Melbourne Airport praised the authorities for their quick response to the outage.
“Melbourne Airport is proud of the outstanding response from the ground crew, which meant there was no immediate risk to other passengers or airport staff,” they said.
Meanwhile, Varghese praised the cabin crew for keeping passengers calm and “made sure no one got hurt.”
