The taboo topic came to light via a lively Reddit forum, in which users were asked: “What’s one sexual thing you’re never doing again?”
While movies often depict the shower as a gluttonous paradise, the automated rainmaker was far and away the most insulted setting to hijack, according to the responses.
“The bent over shower sex made me feel dizzy like I was going to pass out,” said one participant as she described a tumultuous situation.
Another wrote, “Bro, I have to do a light squat for shower sex and between holding that position and thrusting, I have to sit back. Sometimes my hearing and sight go in and out.”
Another claimed he had broken ribs and hit his head on a ceramic rack – not what they meant by “hurt so good”.
Interestingly, both sex and hot showers have been linked to vasovagal syncope, a drop in blood pressure that can cause dizziness and fainting.
This is because “the vagus nerve, which regulates heart rate and blood vessel constriction, temporarily loses its normal regulation due to excessive stimulation,” writes Medical News Today. As a result, blood vessels dilate, blood pressure drops and the person faints.”
They added: “After an orgasm, a person may lie down or feel a rush of emotions that increase the risk of overstimulation of the vagus nerve. If a person uses drugs during sex, they can also play a role.”
So when one combines sex and showering, it can cause a perfect storm to lose one’s mind.
In fact, sex experts have advised against getting hot under the spritzer as, along with fainting, participants may slip and fall.
